Ron Arad "Horn Chair" One / Off U.K. 1985
Ron Arad "Horn Chair" One / Off U.K. 1985
$12,000.00

Rare HORN CHAIR designed by RON ARAD

produced by One/Off ltd 1985 - 1989

Ron Arad's work and career is characterized by his movement between modes and constant experimentation. Arad was born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1951 and studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Art before moving to London in 1973. He began his practice in London in the early 1980s and set up One Off Ltd, focused on limited edition objects, with his partner Caroline Thorman. A decade later he had moved to industrial production techniques and collaborations with large design firms such as Vitra and Kartell.

A persistent theme throughout his work is innovation and the idea of the "new." Still producing work today, Arad uses the latest technology to produce his designs and also integrates it within his pieces, such as his Lolita Chandelier (2004) that can receive and display text messages. Arad also continually experiments with materials and has an exceptional skill to coax volume and undulation out of them, with a particular affinity for metal. His works such as The Big Easy chair (1988) walk the line between design and sculpture. Once an outsider, Arad's relentless energy to design, build and collaborate has placed him firmly within the highest ranks of the design world.

Mario Bellini Stardust Sofa

2007 Meritalia, Italy

Labeled

Dimensions 30” H x 45” D x 94” W seat height 16”

Rare “enlightened” Stardust sofa designed by Mario Bellini in 2007 for Meritalia, This is an early version from 2007 that was later replaced by Via Lattea. The 2 elements, models are connected via zipper and can also be separated as single Chairs and have separate power chords. Stardust is based on the use of materials that are foreign to the traditional world of upholstered furniture. The extraordinary idea was to make use of “ravioli made of air” similar to those normally used for packages, as stuffing, and a metallic netting made of thin inox wire, in practice transparent, as covering-case. These new furniture can be even used as big and comfortable lamps on which people can seat. Low consumer, low voltage and high performance leds.

Patrick Naggar Tabouret Stool, France 1986
$1,250.00

Patrick Naggar, France 1986

Rare Vintage Ebonized Wood and Steel Tabouret Stool Designed by French Designer Patrick Naggar, Circa 1986. Designed for ARC international. Crafted of molded, ebonized wood and electric blue enameled steel legs with dramatic triple fin detail. In the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt Museum, a strong example of Naggar’s design philosophy: the triangular seat is reminiscent of a saddle, associated with a traditional mode of transportation but here it is made into a modern, static piece of furniture. The design of the stool also shows Naggar’s architectural approach to furniture design with the wide, thin back support and the narrow, tubular central front leg working together to provide balance and stability.”

Signed on the underside of the seat “Patrick Naggar impressed and ARC insignia.”
